The reduplication is an important means that reflects the difference of lexicon and syntax in Chinese dialects. The reduplication in Quanzhou dialect exists in different properties, with abundant and various forms. The lexical reduplication and morphological reduplication are easy to mix up, their semantic features and functions are quite different from mandarin. Studying the phenomenon of reduplication in Quanzhou dialect, has important significance for understanding the characteristics of Quanzhou dialect. The thesis focuses on the reduplication in Quanzhou dialect. Through the analysis of the corpus, making a detailed description, the thesis distinguish lexical reduplication and morphological reduplication. The thesis discusses about their forms, semantics, syntax and functions. Moreover, it compared the reduplication in Quanzhou dialect with the reduplication in mandarin, Xiamen dialect and Zhangzhou dialect. The thesis is composed of four parts:Introduction, lexical reduplication in Quanzhou dialect, morphological reduplication in Quanzhou dialect and Conclusion. The lexical reduplication involves nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. (1) nouns:reduplication is classified as five types:AA, AAB, AABB, ABAC and ABCB. Most of them are onomatopoeic words. (2) adjectives:reduplication has six types:AA, AABB, ABB, ABAC, ABCC and ABA. Among them, ABB is the main body. Quanzhou people often use "A ga BB" or "A ga ABB" variants.(3) verbs:reduplication also has five types:AA, AABB, ABB, AAB and ABAC.(4)adverbs:reduplication is sorted into four types:AA, ABB, ABA and ABAC. The structure and function of the lexical reduplication in Quanzhou dialect is different from that in mandarin. The literal and colloquial phenomena in noun and verb reduplication is quite unique. The reduplicative words in Quanzhou dialect contains onomatopoeic constituent, and they usually have many variant forms. The morphological reduplication involves nouns, adjectives, verbs, quantifiers and adverbs. (1) the nouns reduplication has two means:Aâ†'AA/AAA and ABâ†'AABB. The reduplication stressed whole or plural. (2) the adjectives overlap themselves in the pattern of Aâ†'AA(AAA/AAAAA) and AB->AABB/ABAB. The reduplication expresses the deepen of the degree.Basal type tends to be objective, while transmutative type commonly gives expression to the speaker’s subjective attitude. The former is generally used as attributive, predicate or complement, but the latter can’t be attributive. (3)the verbs reduplication has three conditions:Aâ†'AA,ABâ†'ABB, and ABâ†'AABB/ABAB. The verbs reduplication shows the quantity or constancy, expresses the complete concept, and covers all the range of space and time. They usually take compliments:AA+quantity/results/tendency complement. (4)the quantififiers reduplication stresses the quantifier object of each individual as a whole, only those not restricted to one or a few number of quantifiers can generate overlap. (5) some adverbs in Quanzhou dialect have both single syllable and double syllables, they stressed the deepen of the degree in terms of the semantic. As far as the syntactic function, the transmutative type has more freedom on the collocation with the predicate.
