| The concept of scaffolding originally refers to the scaffolding used in the construction industry. However, the term has also been used as a metaphor for a way of teaching, the scaffolding teaching method. This method finds itself among other methods that emphasize the interaction between students and teachers, whereby the focus is laid on a student-centered teaching approach. In recent years many scholars have tried to apply this teaching method to different disciplines such as teaching of oral English and teaching of Chinese spoken language among others. In this article the author tries to apply the scaffolding teaching theory to the instruction of students in an intermediate comprehensive course of Chinese vocabulary, teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Thus it hopes to confer practical advantages to the teaching of intermediate comprehensive course vocabulary using this systematical approach. The following paper discusses the theoretical basis and meaning of the scaffolding teaching method, showcases a feasibility analysis for the use of scaffolding for the teaching of an intermediate comprehensive course of Chinese as a foreign language and analyses results and feedback from concrete teaching examples using scaffolding. Based on the above content the author summarizes the design of the teaching method and puts forward a suggestion for an appropriate use of scaffolding. The paper is divided into six parts. In the introductory part the selected research background is introduced, with the teaching of junior and senior comprehensive course vocabulary using scaffolding. This research area aims to find ways to let students think more proactively while learning vocabulary using a teaching method.Additionally its target is both to provide an effective teaching method and to significantly enrich the current research of this theory. The state of research for the scaffolding teaching method in different teaching applications is analyzed in a research review. The first chapter sets forth the theoretical basis for the scaffolding teaching method and mode, including the connotation, classification and characteristics of the scaffolding teaching method and its teaching steps. The second chapter showcases the scaffolding teaching method in an analysis of its application to the teaching of an intermediate comprehensive vocabulary course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, including its feasibility with an emphasis on its applicability. The third chapter is the key part, it shows a concrete design scheme for the teaching of a comprehensive vocabulary course teaching Chinese as a foreign language based on scaffolding. It includes an analysis of the teaching object and teaching content as well as the specific implementation of the teaching method. The fourth chapter is an evaluation and reflection of the application of the scaffolding teaching method to vocabulary teaching design. A proposal is made for the application of scaffolding teaching to future teaching of intermediate comprehensive vocabulary courses. The final part is a summary of the contents introduced in this paper and its findings. |
