D. H. Lawrence is one of the most important writers among British modern literature in the 20th century. He is also a gifted writer who created lots of works in his life including novels, essays, travel notes and commentary, etc., which almost write over all forms of literature. Lawrence has spent his whole life in pursuit of residence, which is the habitation of the natural ecology, and state of mind returning to nature. His experience as well as his literary and artistic works, shows the ecological wisdom of returning to nature. Lawrence is a unique writer, he is not only a prophet, who calmly realized the destruction of natural ecology caused by the development of science, technology and industry which, in his eyes, is the evil nature of the human nature, but also a savior, who pays much attention to human’s survival and mental state, and is keen on the exploration of ecological place and return of nature. Therefore, from the view of ecocriticism, it is of great significance to do some further study on his ecological thought. The White Peacock is Lawrence’s first work. It possesses exquisite artistry and profound ideological implication, which has always been the focus for numerous scholars of Lawrence.Eco-criticism, appeared as a new theory of literary criticism, is accompanied by the frequency of ecological crisis in the world today and the new consideration of the relationship between humans and nature. It shows people’s hope for preventing and relieving natural disasters and building up an ideal home where mankind lives with natural world together peacefully in the field of literary criticism.
