David Herbert Lawrence is not only one of the most influential writers in the history of British literature,but also he is a controversial writer who makes the whole literary world stunned.During his more than 20 years' literary career,Laurence has created many works,including 10 novels,11 short stories,4 plays,10 poems,4 essays,5 theoretical books,3 travel books and lots of letters.Laurence's works mainly focus on the human nature and the life condition.So ecological criticism as an important theory of literary criticism is naturally used in many of Laurence's works.However,few people study The Plumed Serpent with the ecological criticism.Therefore,this paper selects The Plumed Serpent as research object to study the ecological thoughts revealed in The Plumed Serpent with the use of ecological criticism and also to analyze the solution to the ecological crisis proposed by Laurence.This paper consists of three chapters with introduction and conclusion.The first part is an overview of Laurence's literary creation and the main content of the novel The Plumed Serpent.It also involves the research status of Laurence and his novel The Plumed Serpent at home and abroad.The theory of ecological criticism is referred.This paper from the first chapter to the third chapter is body parts of this article.The Plumed Serpent is mainly discussed from the natural crisis,social crisis and spiritual crisis.Laurence directly criticizes the industrial civilization.In his works,industrial civilization not only destroys the beautiful environment,but also destroys the nature of human and distorts the relationship between men.And it makes people suffer from separation of spirit and the pain of the body.Finally,it is difficult for human to achieve the goal of life.So human lose themselves in life without goals.Through the above analysis,on the one hand,a more thorough understanding of The Plumed Serpent can be got;on the other hand,with the situation of ecological crisis increasingly serious,studying the ecological thoughts of Lawrence is helpful to let people know more about the nature and abandon the anthropocentrism,thus promoting the life style of human exploration in harmony with nature.So the ecological thoughts of Laurence still has a great influence on the twenty-first Century.
