The level of students’ autonomous learning ability has not only become a major subject to the English teaching, but also a problem needs to be solved in English teaching reform. Compared with ordinary college students, as a special group of students, art students’ autonomous learning situation is more worthy of study.This thesis aims to study the situations of autonomous learning of art students in Jiujiang University,the influencing factors of Students’ autonomous learning ability and ways to cultivate students’ autonomous learning to improve the art students’ English learning ability and efficiency.This study is verified through questionnaires, interviews and teaching experiments among 135 freshmen from the art department in Jiujiang University to know more about their autonomous learning ability and influencing factors including the types of learning motivation, interest and needs, learning objectives, self-efficacy, attribution style, teaching and learning strategies.Based on the data analysis of questionnaire, interviews and teaching experiments, the study puts forward these learning strategies, such as setting proper learning objectives and plans, stimulating students’ interests in English, building a relax and harmonious teaching environment, training learning strategies, encouraging students to give timely feedback and group evaluation can effectively reduce the motivation recession,cultivate the student’s autonomous learning ability, and can also play a role in improving the art college students’ English learning interest and learning effect.
