This paper is a report of translation practice, the source text is American Jewish writer Philip Roth’s(1933-) Nemesis. I translated the second part of the second chapter and the third chapter. Nemesis not only explores human nature deeply, but also has rich cultural content. The novel involves the American Jewish culture, Indian culture, as well as the Greek mythology, etc.To a certain extent, translation is a transformation between two different cultures. For the translation of Nemesis, which has such a rich cultural implication, we should pay more attention to the treatment of foreign cultural factors. To deal with the exotic culture factors of the text better, I searched and read a large number of books. As to specific translation theory, I mainly use famous American translator Eugene Nida’s reader response criticism theory as a guide, and I combine reader response criticism with Nida’s "language culture factors", for the purpose of attaching the target language to the source language, and reappearing the source language cultural factors to the maximum, in the mean time, taking care of readers’ reading accept for the exotic culture. The key point of this paper is to analyze the cultural factors in the process of translation, its difficulty is the combination of cultural factors and theory of reader response criticism. In order to achieve the best consideration for the needs of readers, firstly the translation using a series of translation method, including using literature blank for the reproduction of ecological and cultural factors, using parallel texts for the reproduction of the material cultural factors, using context method for the reproduction of social and cultural factors, using thick translation method for the reproduction of religious and cultural factors, using varied translation for the reproduction of language cultural factors; secondly, this paper also discusses the reproduction of Greek mythology in the source language, and reproducing the factors of World War II culture of America; thirdly, the report also discusses the translation of language skills, such as the use of intertextuality skillfully in the translated text; the reproduction of the breath of life; the use of Chinese four character phrases; translation method of dash. This paper mainly uses the literary interpretation and psychological analysis and other methods to analyze the translation. In the process of translation, I experienced the great promotion and improvement of the translation of the reader response criticism theory.
