Historical Description Of 《American Jounal Of Acupuncture》and Its Translation

This paper is based on the formal website and the 13 column past (American Jounal of Acupuncture)),which are stored in the library of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. Firstly, author introduce this issue fully. The time background of the first issue of 《AJA》 is the starting of diplomacy between China and America as well as the folk achademic dipolomacy of medicines. Authors,who contribute their articles to AJA, are listed.22 of them are introdued chiefly. Famous masters such as Nathan Sivin、Manfred Porket、 I. Venith and Joseph Needham are introdued in detail. Colums of this issue are concluded. Contents of AJA are introdued in 4 sides which include Study on Chinese Herbs、Study on the intergartion between Chinese and Western Medicine、 Traditional Chinese Medical and Acumoxial Education、Diseases cured by acupuncture. Referring to schools of American acupuncture,5 different acupuncture shools are introduced in forming-process and characters of diagnosing and therapy, which are based on the path that they are transmitted. As far as the reviews of this issue, I choose several remarks of respentative persons, such as Richard D. Yennie, President of Acupuncture Society of America、 Michael Battey Fellow of Acupuncture Society of America and Van Benschoten, doctor of OMD in Reseda, California. Subjective reviews are expected.Secondly, Transliteration of TCM. I select several examples of transliteration of TCM terms in AJA, which includes concept terms and acupoint names. The Chinese Traditional translation theory and translation method are dated back. I propose "the 6 steps of transliteration method" which are based on the theory of translation process and the theory of translation method. Several terms are transliterated by "the 6 steps of transliteration method", which prove it right that transliteration is adapted to TMC translation.Thirdly, translation of acupoint-name. Although, all of the acupoint names in AJA are transliterated and coded, I try to translate meaningfully most of acupoint names after reading 《Explanation on the acupoint name》 several times.4 translation methods of acupoint-name are concluded. (Simple-translation of acupoint-name list are enclosed.)By which,I try to prove that some methods of translation are inappropriate in AJA published in America, and contribution to Translation-standards-of-TCM are expected.
