The estrangement between Britain and Spanish has a long history. In the year of 1588, the conflicts between the two countries intensify thoroughly, which brings to the outbreak of The British-Spanish naval battle. This war involves a series of problems, like Netherland problem, Corsair problem, and Religious problem. Thus, this war is of great historical necessity. To defend against the war, both the Britain and Spanish have prepared enough no matter in the aspect of manpower and material resources or in the aspect of tactics and military. Finally, they meet beside the Plymouth harbor, the war which the two monarchs have tried hard to avoid happens. In the sea battle beside Calais harbor, the Spanish Armada suffers a serious defeat, and the duke of Medina-Sidonia is forced to return to Spanish. When making detours beside the sea area of Scotland and Ireland, the massive Spanish Armada finally fails and returns back to its country, suffering heavy casualties. There are many reasons lead to its failure, for example, the arbitrary of Philip II, the difference of the strategies and tactics, and the discrepancy in population, ship designing, and military hardware.Britain and Spanish have paid huge costs in manpower, material resources and financial resources in the British-Spanish naval battle in 1588. This war not only serves as the starting point of changing from flourish to decadence for Spanish, but has produced profound influences to the two countries and even the whole world. Even more, with the victory of the war, Britain develops fast in its sea exploration and foreign trades. Encouraged and aided by Britain, Netherlands and France resist firmly toward Spanish and its supporting forces, at the last gaining their national independence and security and taking a place in foreign trades and the colonial plunder. From later on, Britain, France and Netherlands keep wrecking the old Spanish empire, which lead into a new pattern with the European relationships displaying their unique colors.
