A Study On Mao Qiling’s Study Of The Book Of Songs

In the academic history of early Qing Dynasty,Mao Qiling was a famous scholar.As a knowledgeable scholar,he ever wrote many books in literature,melody,history and so on,especially in Confucian classics.He was the advocator of the confirmation learning after Huang Zongxi and Gu Yanwu.Mao Qiling took an empirical to his learning with out engaging in empty and he focused on the original works.He also attacking the Confucian learning of Song Dynasty represented by Zhuxi.All about these works made great contributions to the academic development and the change of the academic styles in early Qing Dynasty.This thesis investigate the academic propensity of Qing Dynasty’s study on The Book of Songs from his points on The Book of Songs and the academic background in early Qing Dynasty.The first chapter analysis the deep reasons of Mao Qiling reinterpreted the definition of “Guxunzhuan” and the opposition of “Yinshi”,which is to amend and protect Mao Xu and define his position of the Han school of classical philology.The second chapter summarizes the expression of attacking Zhuxi.The significance is not only to prove the mistake of Zhuxi’s view,but also break the authoritative position of the Confucian learning of Song Dynasty represented by Zhuxi.The third chapter analyzes the relation about Mao Qiling’s thought of “Must be based on evidence” and his points on The Book of Songs.The fourth chapter point out that Mao Qiling focused on the original works by analyzing his book which named Shi zhuan shi shuo bo yi.In short,all about those indicate Mao Qiling’s tendency of the Han school of classical philology in the study of The Book of Songs,and that is tendency of research on the book of songs in Qing Dynasty.We can say that Mao Qiling is a predecessor in the research on the book of songs in Qing Dynasty.
