Tsinghua Bamboo Slips, Xi Nian is one of the newly discovered important pre-Qin literature in recent years. It recorded many historical events from the Western Zhou dynasty to the early warring states period. It has very important value for the study of ancient history and pre-Qin history of historiography, and it can be a supplement to literature handed down from ancient times. Therefore, the publishing of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips immediately aroused high attention. The current academic research on it is mainly concentrated on interpretation, textual research of characters and words and historical textual research. Attention on problems such as historical narrative characteristics is insufficient. Focusing on the weakest research point of Xi Nian, the study of historical narrative and comparing with Incidents, conversations, and characters in Zuo Zhuan, it can be concluded that Xi Nian mainly narrates diplomatic relations of different states. The first part mainly aims at researching historical events in Xi Nian, the second chapter war, the third chapter alliance conference and the fourth chapter civil strife are included. Xi Nian was good at summarizing, yet paid attention to connections before and after events. Compared with Zuo Zhuan, it is the connections that play an important part in international relations, although the process of the war is simplified in Xi Nian. 23 alliance conferences selected from Xi Nian are all associated with force. The vast majority of alliance conferences which matched the changing international circumstances are directly involved in war. Xi Nian also recorded civil strife in a state. Compared with Zuo Zhuan, Xi Nian paid more attention on account of the effects that the civil strife had on "international" relations as it obviously affected the diplomacy which were valued by the author of Xi Nian. In the process of narration, the author has successfully grasped the development and changes of the international relations. The second part, that is, the fifth chapter in this paper, is a summary of the characteristics of the "dialogue" in Xi Nian. Compared with Zuo Zhuan, the "dialogue" recorded in Xi Nian was not that much and some can even not form a continuous dialogue due to its lack of attention to the details of history. But according to the analysis of the "dialogue" recorded in Xi Nian, the conclusion can be drawn that the "dialogue" implied the author’s moral evaluation of the recorded historical events and some of the "dialogue" is helpful to promote the development of the event. The third part, i.e. chapter 6 mainly focuses on the characteristics of figures mentioned in Xi Nian. 176 people appear Xi Nian, but most of the characters appear only once. There are even many of the characters that are just names or used to dating. Much has been written about figures who were involved in the contention for hegemony between Jin and Chu. Compared with Zuo Zhuan, few figures are recorded in Xi Nian, and most of the figures are more obscure as Xi Nian put more emphasis on events instead of figures.
