“Imagination” is the soul of art, without imagination, without art.Imagination comes from life, it is the sublimation of life. It is noteworthy that an outstanding work of art not only requires artists’ imagination, but also the viewer’s imagination, the viewer plays a significant role in art creation.Start from What kind of picture can arouse the viewer and the artist’s imagination.According to the related information of the subjects, I found two interesting points, First, accompanied by two major changes of British watercolor development, from the English Landscape Painting period,Nostalgic Painting period to lyricism period, from the lyric period to modern genre, the imagination also experienced from nonexistence to existence, from the painter’s imagination using to the viewer’s imagination addition. One of the great artists is William Turner. Artists not only need to consider their imagination using, but also the psychological orientation of the viewer. Alexander Cozens’ s “ink method” is a good example, leaving a space for your painting, to see how the viewer acts."Imagination" is very important for watercolor practice, especially the unique flavor of water and color, they are conducive to the painter andthe viewer’s imagination using. According to watercolor mood, materials and techniques as well as features and other aspects of the artist’s individual pursuit, I tried to prove “imagination” has unique value in watercolor art practice.According to the research of the works of Hunan native painter Huang Tie Shan, and the contemporary Australian painter Joseph Zbukvic.I found that “imagination”is valuable in watercolor, knowledge is applied by the painters to the their artistic practice, it makes me clear that with painters’ imagination and leaving space of a picture will be more attractive, the content of the work will be more rich.
