The topic for this paper is "An attempt to Teach Chinese Using Swahili". The main aim of this paper is to find out the differences and similarities between Swahili and Chinese. Thereafter apply these differences and similarities to promote the teaching and learning of Chinese Language by Kenyan students.Data was randomly collected from Kenyan students studying Chinese both in Kenya and in China through questionnaires; interviewing Chinese teachers in Kenya and through direct observation. The paper discusses Swahili and Chinese Language comparison, analysis of the research results and how to use Swahili in learning and teaching Chinese based on linguistic contrastive analysis hypothesis.Results from this research revealed that Kenyan students learning Chinese often use their knowledge of Swahili to better their understanding of Chinese. Analysis of data collected from Kenyan local Chinese teachers revealed that the use of Swahili, to a certain extent in Chinese class, is useful in learning Chinese.
