The thesis is a practice report on the basis of the translation of The US Presidency. As an original English book, The US Presidency gives an elaborate introduction to the US presidency. From this book I chose about 10,000 words to do my translation research. The thesis discusses the necessity of creative treason in literary translation and how to achieve it by using proper translation skills and methods. The thesis consists of five parts: the task description, sharing the reasons of text selection, text introduction and significance and challenge of translation; the process description, giving a summary of the translation process; the case analysis, setting a full image of the case study which is the most important part of this thesis, as it analyzing the inescapability of creative treason in the translation process and which, how, when specific skills and methods should be used for better translation; the implication and conclusion, which concludes some improvement and lessons I gained though this translation.Differences between languages will affect translations, while the cultural difference is another factor which can’t be ignored. French literary sociologist Robert Escarpit holds that translation is always a kind of creative treason. To lead the translating process to a better result, the creative treason has to be used in literary translation. According to my personal practice, this thesis interprets how to use amplification, Omission, free Translation and other skills to enforce creative treason through case study.
