Trait theory was the main direction of leadership theory research. But because of being difficult to provide consistent research conclusion, trait research method was criticized by many scholars, the main stream of the leadership study turned to behavioral theory and context theory. In recent years, with the emergence of big five personality theory, the leadership traits theory got attention again. Some scholars, after reviewing the past leadership traits research, pointed out:the reason of earlier studies failed to obtain consistent conclusion was that researchers had not reached real consensus over the definition and structure of all the personality traits. As the big five personality theory provides a reliable method of measuring the vast majority of personality traits, the leadership traits study based on Big Five personality has made a breakthrough. In this paper, author divided leadership standard into leadership effectiveness and leadership emergence, and take the leadership mergence as the dependent variable, based on the theory of big five personality, explores the influence of the big five personality traits on leadership emergence in students group. This article firstly established the assumptions and theoretical models according to the literature research result, assuming that extraversion, conscientious, openness, agreeableness and leadership have a positive relationship, Neuroticism and leadership have a negative relationship; then author collected leadership traits and leadership emergence data of 153 samples from Beijing Jiaotong University using the personality traits questionnaire revised on the NEO-PI-R scale and Fang Hua(2015)’s self-made personality traits scale considering the background of Chinese culture and use AMOS21.0 to process the confirmatory factor analysis, reliability and validity test as well as the hypothesis test on the relationship between the five personal traits and leadership emergence. Results show:conscientious, openness and extraversion has a positive relationship with leadership emergence and reached the significant level of.01, neuroticism has a negative relationship with leadership emergence and reached the significant level of.05, the relationship coefficient generated by the agreeableness and leadership emergence is only.055 and did not reach significant level.Compared with the previous studies, this paper has two innovations, first of all, in this paper, on the basis of carefully reading the related researches, the author thought that leadership effectiveness and leadership emergence are suitable for different research situation and required for different samples, so we should consider them as two different definition. As few domestic scholars studied the leadership emergence, the author take it as the dependent variable of this research, this can possibly exert their research interests on leadership emergence; Secondly, the author extracted five second-order latent variable and established five structural equation model to study relations between five personality traits and leadership emergence, both reduced the risk of small sample size analysis and achieved a accurate statistical analysis.
