The American Revolution is one of the most important topic in American history study. Its independence means that a new country rises in America and found its own road. But in the independence process, not everyone in American colony supports independence from Britain. We call this people "loyalists", they not only have a large number, but also have their own political beliefs. The loyalists are different from traditional conservative forces, who want to keep alliance with Britain. But at the same time, they are against the new policy of the colonies made by the Parliament, hoping to improve the relationship between colony and Britain as well as solve the contradiction. Joseph Galloway, one of the most famous loyalists, once proposed the "Anglo American Alliance Program", which he wanted to use to extinguish the flame of independence. However, the Declaration of Independence makes the relationship between the two broken in a public manner. Finally, the patriots walk on the road of independence with American colonists. In this process, the patriots are calming down hard on loyalists, in order to remove their influence. In the military dimension, there is no major conflict between loyalists and patriots, but the latter often harassed patriots, which plays a limited role. After the war, a lot of loyalists have to flee their home. The British government acknowledges loyalists and requests the American government to return their property which had been confiscated before. Many loyalists acquire compensation. So it really makes a different on American Revolution, if we can have a objective research on loyalists.
