The Research About Bailongdong Cave Fauna In The Hubei Province

Bailong cave sites which located in the fourth villages group of ShenWuling village in Yunxi county of Hubei province was uncovered in the 1970 s. It lies in the southern foot of the east part of Qinling, the left bank of the upstream of the Hanjiang river. Bailong cave is located in the junction of the fauna beteween south and north, that is Exi- Sanxia district. It is the place where various of animal fossils was uncovered owned to the explore of many research and development institution and universities, the sate of status and the specimen which uncovered were both well protected. This is an important monument in the transition of the Early period of late Pleistocene and middle period of Late Pleistocene. Comparing to other districts, the natural environment of Yunxi, Hubei province has its own characters. The advantageous climate and the characters of the north and south climate intermediate belt provide a comfortable living environment for the animals. The essay aims to study the area feature of the animals and the requirements of the environment characters of survival through observing the types of the fauna fossil and the ecological characteristics and analyzing the life habit of the fauna. Comparing with typical site fauna in south and north or typical site fauna in the same zone,Bailong cave fauna shares a certain similarity and diversity with them, thus making it possible to compare with the fauna in several different sites. It could be distinguished the similarity and the difference of the fauna of Bailonng cave and other ones through making a contrast among typical sites fauna in north(the fauna of Nihewan and Gongwangling), typical site fauna in same area( the fauna of Jianshi cave, Yunxian and Hexian) and the typical site fauna in south(the fauna of Guangxi gigantopithecus and Yanjinggou). The essay aims to analyze the cause of the differences of the characters among the Baillong cave site and the others to reveal the transitional traits of the Bailong cave fauna in special natural geography, then having a further discussion on the distinction of the age by comparing with other faunas. It could provide a prove to confirm the period of Bailong cave fauna and acquire the general regulation and the characters of every fauna to some degree through making a comparison among the species of the animals. On the basis of the transition and the distinction of the period of Bailong cave fauna to discuss the environmental scene, geological landscape, and the relationship of the ancient people to some degree.
