Wang Wei is a famous poet in the history of the Tang Dynasty, he is not only good at poems and paintings, but also proficient in buddhist theory. he has the title of "contemporary poetry craftsman" when he is alive, and also given the praise of "worldwide master of literature" by Dai Zong emperor after his death. Wang Wei is an important poet, politicians, artists in Tang Dynasty equally famous with "shixian" Li Bai and "shisheng" Du Fu. The study of Wang Wei is the important link of the research about early Tang’s culture and history.Wang Wei’s poems and paintings was introduced to Japan in early Tang, Fujiwara Sase who lived in the Heian Period embodied twenty volumes of Wang Wei’s poetry in his work "Japan in the book directory", this is the earliest record about the introduction to Japan of Wang Wei’s poetry. Wang Wei’s poetry also has the great impact on the haiku creation of Matsuo Basho in Edo period. Meiji Japanese writer Natsume Soseki also cited Wang Wei’s poems in his novel "pillow in the grass". Wang Wei’s masterpiece "Wang Chuan map" has become an important research object of the ancient Japanese scholars. Wang Wei’s Poems and paintings has had an important influence on the development of Japanese cultural. The Japanese scholars have devoted themselves to the study of Wang Wei from the beginning of the last century. Japanese scholars have had a very thorough study about Wang Wei, they publish large amount of works and produce significant influence, it is worth us to draw lessons and study from them. To have a better understanding on the Japanese scholars’s research achievements about Wang Wei, we must summary and comb their research purposefully by carrying out with their works.This paper is based on the study of Japanese modern Sinologist Kobayashi taichiro, Iritani Sensuke, Itou Jungwen, Uchida Naruhito and their academic works "Wang Wei’s poetry and art", "Journal of Wang Wei", "The aesthetic poet-Wang Wei". The goal is to summary their research contents and key points, explore the depth and breadth of the research work, and sum up the specific research methods through their study of Wang Wei’s poetry and art.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the research of Wang Wei’s main content and research status, introduces these several Japanese scholars who is focusing on Wang Wei’s study and their works. The second chapter overviews the Japanese scholars’s research on Wang Wei’s life story, analyses Wang Wei’s borth and his family background, in order to commenting on and pave the way for the following research on his poem and painting art. The third chapter analyses Japanese scholars’s study of Wang Wei’s poems emphatically from two aspects, Wang Wei’s friends and his zen pleasure in poetry, to explore Wang Wei’s poetry features. The fourth chapter is the analysis of Japanese scholars’s study on Wang Wei’s Poems and paintings, carries on the analysis mainly from three aspects, the origins and characteristics of Wang Wei’s landscape paintings, the later researchers’s generations on Wang Wei’s painting evaluation, Wangchuan and "Wangchuan picture". The fifth chapter summarizes the research methods of Japanese scholars, compare with that of Chinese researchers, in order to find the artistic value of Wang Wei’s poetry and painting and the academic value of study of Japanese scholars, provide the beneficial enlightenment to the study of Wang Wei.
