Exploration Of The Artistic Style And Performing Characteristic Of Zijun’s Three Arias In Opera "Regret For The Past"

Opera "Regret for the Past" is the first lyric opera of China since the the reform and opening-up policy. It was recomposed from Lu Xun’s fiction which has the same name in 1981, in order to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Lu Xun’s birthday. It was organized by China Opera and Dance-Drama Theatre to create and rehears. The arrangement was conducted by Shi guangnan.The art of novel technique in opera "Regret of the Past" made this opera more creative and complete, and broke performance form of the traditional opera. This scenario reflect the lyrics-like characteristics of the original work, depicted two brave teenagers Juan Sheng and Zi Jun, who had the courage to resist the feudal society, it also revealed the weakness of intellectual. This opera mixed abundant aria, recitative, ensemble and chorus to express the feelings that surging forward with great momentum of people’s heart. "Regret for the Past" is one of the most important contribution of Chinese operas in the 80’s. This opera narrated the story from the end by using the form of Juan Sheng’s notes. In this opera, Zijun’s performance is very important. This opera presented better drama and music structures to audiences by expressing of many inner scenarios to make audiences could feel the quintessence of the whole opera. Zi Jun’s arioso performance in this opera was the classic work of soprano, by analyzing Zi Jun’s "Love Trilogy"-((Sunset》, 《Just the wind》, 《Unfortunately life》singing style and artistic characteristics (include vocal acrobatics, emotions, musical structure) to discuss how to perform the work better.
