Glimpse On Contemporary Bamboo Flutes Manufacturing

Where there is musical instrument, there is instrumental music. Flute is one of the representatives of the Chinese national Musical Instruments. The bone flute, unearthed in Jiahu village Wuyang county Anhui province, has a history of over eight thousand years. It marks the beginning of Chinese flute and even Chinese music. Handicraftsmen play a significant role in the promotion of flute art. As most of the flutes are made of bamboo, they are called "bamboo flute". And the scientific and systematic promotion of bamboo flutes plays a significant role in the healthy development of bamboo flute music. According to the collected data, there are little theoretical achievements about the manufacturing of bamboo flutes (about 20 papers and publications), and the system is not so complete. Glimpse on Contemporary Bamboo Flutes Manufacturing strives to do its little bit to help the theoretical research of Chinese flutes manufacturing in order to make a contribution to the scientific and systematic development of Chinese flute music.This paper adopts the following research methods. First, collect and clear up the related files in order to have an overview about the previous findings. Second, learn about the status quo of bamboo manufacturing by investigating bamboo flute manufacturing enterprises, interviewing the handicraftsmen and gathering evidences from the musical instrument museum. Third, compare with different bamboo flute manufacturing enterprises and handicraftsmen in order to get some information about the flute manufacturing of different times. Fourth, analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different enterprises and handicraftsmen in order to present the status quo of contemporary bamboo flute manufacturing. Fifth, make a blueprint for the bamboo flute manufacturing in the future.This paper is divided into seven parts. Chapter one is introduction. Chapter two is about the promotion of bamboo flute manufacturing. Chapter three gives an introduction about the manufacturing techniques of different enterprises and handicrafts. Chapter four pays attention to the basic craft of contemporary bamboo flute manufacturing. Chapter five shows the differences and similarities of different manufacturing school. Chapter six analyzes the advantages and problems of bamboo flutes manufacturing. Chapter seven conceives the development in the future.
