Zhuibaiqiu was edited in Qianlong period when Kunqu Opera performanced of the most prosperous time, including the zhezixi(one act Play) which proformanced on stage. Zhuibaiqiu represented a historical turning point of the development of Kunqu Opera, which made the actor as the leader of Kunqu Opera instead of Literati, leading to a huge change from script to perform. As the new audiences, public audiences had a huge impact on Kun Opera, added the folk consciousness into Kunqu Opera.This Paper is divided into the following sections:The first chapter presents a brief introduction to the edition and collation of Zhuibaiqiu. By organizing the versions of Zhuibaiqiu, their origin, development and variation can be presented. The screening criteria is to moralize through amusement. Zhuibaiqiu lay out Zhezixi according to the performance instead of script or Qu, which makes it much more different with other anthologies of Kunqu Opera.The second chapter generalizes the themes of Kunqu Opera in Zhuibaiqiu. The folk wish to get rich and famous, simultaneously, becoming mercenary and indifference. The separate and reunion of families is rearranged to tragic stories and combine the emotions and reasons. People rise against their oppressors in royal court or household, showing their loyalty or discontent.The third chapter elaborates the role of Kunqu Opera in Zhuibaiqiu. The performance form of Zhezixi promoted the development of performance skills, changing minor roles in Quanbenxi into leading roles. Actors create roles of the subaltern conducive to reflect the public morals, including poor scholar, servants, vagrants etc. The folk express aspirations and belief through the role of monk, magician and supernatural being.The forth chapter elaborate the stage characteristics of Kunqu Opera. Actors delete verse, add dialogue in the adaptation, which made Kunqu Opera more popular in folk, leading Kunqu Opera back to drama. The performance skill take place of the spot sometimes as the key element on stage. A happy-ending story aims to entertain the audience instead of completing the structure.The last chapter analyse the similarities and differences between the aesthetic taste of Literati and the folk, which keep influence each other. Besides, the Literati’s aesthetic taste was constantly changing. Amorous comedies written by literati got more comical on stage. Actors make the characters of "tiedan" and the clown stronger, and the plot is more close to the daily life. Shuihu drama including two themes of pornography and hero is the product of profound influence exerted by policy, literati and the folk.
