Since the publishing of Sun Li’s Ji Gang and Wang Zengqi’s People in Hometown, the style of traditional note novels was active again. A number of writers started to take part in and their works were called new note novels. As a novel style which appeared in early 1980s, it’s short and concise in form, just like prose. But it also has a broad range of content close to reality living, showing the ordinary people and their ordinary life. Usually, the plot of the novel is not very intriguing, but it still has the characteristic of fictional. Inheriting the art style of the ancient note novels, the new note novels write in a simple and straight forward style, which shows writer’s temperament and interest. In 1980s,more and more writers started the creation of new note novels and made a large number of valuable works. Among them, works of Sun Li, Wang Zengqi and Lin Jinlan are most representative and valuable, such as Yun Zhai Novels, People in Hometown, Three People named Chen in Hometown and Customs of Aideng Bridge. Based on the overall review of the new note novels in 1980s, this paper mainly select Sun Li, Wang Zengqi and Lin Jinlan and their works as research object, and made a comprehensive study on the narrative mentality, cultural implication and stylistic consciousness three aspects, aiming to grasp the reason why the writers choose notes novels of this form, to master the difference in cultural implication between the new and the ancient note novels, to present temporal spirit of new note novels by analyzing the narration and language.Narrative psychology refers to the mental state of a subject or narrative psychological support. Writers of the new note novels shared feeling with the the abandoned people during the new period, which made them choose to rank themselves on the edge of writer. When they restarted writing novels, they were old and nostalgic. They escaped the reality with sense of insecurity by missing the happy past. Meanwhile, they were deeply influenced by China traditional Confucian and Taoist Culture, so were their aesthetic mentality. The length and capacity of new note novels is short and small; the plot and theme is and weak. The new note novels reflect the cultural implication in the narrations of hometown and hometown people. Hometown writing occupies a lot in the novel, and the good factor of hometown in memory makes writers yearn for spiritual comfort. Most characters in the novel are related to hometown or the past time. The character and human nature of these people represented the writer’s value orientation and nostalgia for hometown, past life memories. In the writing process, the writers paid close attention to the novel’s narrative and language consciously. They described the past and hometown far away from here, constituting a long psychological distance, and this helped them in a calm mood without anger and pathos. During the narration, the interruption, blank, false or true complement added the novel interpretation of space and artistic charm. Besides, classical Chinese and dialect were used to give novel more lingering charm. The new note novels in 1980s contributed to the literary many excellent works. It pursues the traditional aesthetic realm. The writers cosigned their modern consciousness and historical thought in their novels. However, owing to the small form and capacity, new note novels’ reveal of reality lacks strength and depth, at the same time, they can’t show important theme directly. For all these reasons, position of new note novels in the literary history should not be overestimated, also they won’t become the mainstream.
