In the introduction part, it points out the research background, research significance, feasibility analysis, the main problems and research difficulties, and so on. In the second chapter, it mainly discusses the related concepts, and discusses the narrow definition of water color and the broad definition of watercolor. In fact, the difference between the two concepts is the difference between the material use. Chapter three mainly comprehensive materials and Western watercolor painting development by analyzing the concept’and morphology of composite materials, and composite materials in the development of Western watercolor painting process of application, and points out the effect on the development of watercolor painting in the west by comprehensive materials and inadequate. The paper’s focus shifted to China, the whole development period is divided into before the period of May Fourth Movement in the development of Chinese watercolor material use, the Chinese watercolor painting material to the May 4th new period of use, since the new period in the development of Chinese watercolor comprehensive use of materials and so on several stages, starting from the fourth chapter. The fourth chapter analyzed before the period of May Fourth Movement in the development of Chinese watercolor material use are pointed out:the implied change of watercolor painting in aesthetic, the early main works and creative features analysis, pointed out the shortages existed in early development. Chapter five discusses to the May 4th new period Chinese watercolor painting material using, this period watercolor get attention and popularity, the maturity of the nationality creation, showing the many adaptation characteristics. Finally, it points out the development of watercolor painting in the experience and deficiency. The sixth chapter introduces the application of comprehensive materials in the development of Chinese watercolor since the new period, and points out the new breakthrough of the comprehensive materials in water color painting.
