Based on the book<A guide to water colour painting>written by R.P Noble,a fundamental book for water painting which is published in 1850,this thesis mainly does research on the teaching material during 19th century,and compares its cognition and acknowledgement with current textbook.the differences will be discussed with fully understanding of traditional British water painting as well.There are 16 chapters in this book excising the preface,it can be summarized into three parts:the principle of structure,the instruction of color and recommendations of painting material and skills,especially on introducing the knowledge about mixture and usage of formation and color as well as choices of materials.In this thesis,5 basic opinions of British water painting in 19th century would be illustrated respectively,they are:1.the demonstration and understanding of art principles;2.the summarized description and refined extract of of the natural world;3.the construction and performance of a virtual 3D space;4.the combination of transparent colors and opaque colors;5.being proficient in skills and well-known of bountiful tools and hues.Understanding the history and traditions helps us preform well in present.The traditions sourced from generations in various aspects are a kind of culture power,which is filled with moral charisma and can uniform the social behavior.Meanwhile,as the sedimentation of creative imagination they are,they are also the proof of history.The art of human beings is consisted of these traditions,it is no doubt that the current water painting has inherited the ideas in 19th century,and that is the reason why I choose this book.It would certainly benefit us in water painting creation and its research.
