As the outstanding representative writer of Turkish literature, Nobel prize winner Orhan Pamuk has created many excellent literary works. Most of these works are set in writer’s hometown Istanbul which is the famous historical city and have shaped text images which have profound cultural connotation. As writer’s autobiography and informal essay a reference, this paper will analyze text city images of Pamuk’s work, the relations between Pamuk and Istanbul and Pamuk’s circumstances and feelings in the city. This paper will expound Istanbul images which Pamuk created by two aspects:observe and study city’s cultural blend and conflict through city’s binary system and labyrinth in Pamuk’s works, investigate the symbolic meaning and writer’s moral evaluations in writer’s text city, discuss the fusion of citizen and city’s character and understand essence of the city through citizen images whom literary works created.
