Catholic fictions almost take up half of British writer David Lodge’s creations,and these fictions have common writing skills which are same as Campus fictions,but the theme is about the continuously changing thoughts on religion issues.There are five parts in this paper:Introduction part is a brief explanation on David Lodge’s works and achievements.His creation includes two aspects:fiction and criticism.and the fictions can be divided into three types:Campus Fiction,Catholic Fiction and Biography Fiction.This paper is a study of his Catholic Fiction.David Lodge has won many prizes and he is a worldwide famous writer.The paper also summarized the abroad and domestic studies,pointed out the opinions and the deficiency.The innovation of this paper is to discuss the skills and theme in Catholic Fiction.Chapter one is a study of the writer David Lodge.He believes in Catholicism but also is agnostic’.This kind of thought influence the theme of his works.Meanwhile,he is a professor and critic,who is very familiar with post-modern theories,which makes his fictions full of writing skills.Chapter two and chapter three are the main parts.Take<The British Museum is Falling Down><Paradise News><Therapy>as example,talking about the art of fiction:metaphorical title; parody; various focalization.And chapter three indicates the changing theme in these three fictions:from doubting the dogmas to indeterminate the belief then to the new cognition and reestablish of belief.The conclusion part sums up the statements above.Through the study of the three Catholic fictions,we can see that David Lodge is good at using skills to make the fiction interesting,and at the same time discuss the profound theme.That’s why we can call him a "Serious Writing Game Master".
