Erhu, also named Chinese Violin, is one of the greatest stringed instruments in China. Erhu was used as an accompaniment in folk music as well as other tutti until modern times, when Liu Tianhua, who learnt a lot from the western playing skills, extended the holds, created vibrato and made Erhu more expressive. Till then, Erhu was no longer an accompaniment in folk music, but a solo one.Erhu has come to the top for half a century. Many materpieces and great players also appear during this time and the excellent skills as well. The works are diverse. Not only do the works show the diversification, but also show the idea of inheritance and development. Erhu has a pure tone which can be easily sing along with and can express all kinds of musical image and charactor emotions. This provides the technical support for the "Vocal Tune". In the 1970 s, a famous player and educator Min Huifen gave an idea of "Vocal Tune" in playing Erhu for the first time.Since then he has devoted himself to it and has created his own style with a large number of works. The "Vocal Tune" expanded not only the number but the skills as well, and most importantly the style. The innovation and inheritance it contains was a landmark on the way of Erhu history. This research stives to the origin and development, the influence of traditional folk music and other aspects like style, skills and my insightful views.Research Methodologies 1st.
