Zongyang dialect belongs to the Jianghuai Mandarin Huang Xiao chip, which has general characteristics of Huang Xiao tablets, but also has a rarely found and the local characteristics. Based on the field investigation, this paper makes a detailed study on the phonetic features of Zongyang dialect by using the methods of description and comparison. This paper is divided into four chapters, the middle of the third, the fourth chapter is the two topics of this study, are also the key parts of this paper.The first chapter is the introduction. This chapter is divided into four sections, the first section introduces Zongyang County and Hengbu Town natural and cultural geography situation,and then shows the types of Zongyang dialect accent.At the same time,the chapter summarizes the Zongyang dialect research, and explains the research purpose, significance and methods. The fourth section briefly covers the survey materials used in this paper.In the second part, which is divided into two sections, we can see the phonological system of Hengbu dialect.The first section describes the phonological system of Zongyang dialect, and lists out the coordination laws. The second section summarizes the phonological features.Initials:the voiced consonants in Hengbu dialect have different developments according to the tone.The initials with level tone has become aspirated and other initials with uneven tone has become unaspirated, Jing-Jian groups of ancient initial has combined, there exist literary versus colloquial distinction in the second grade open vowels of Jian initials. And the present pronunciation of Ying and Yi initials have combined. Some rhyme-groups which coordinated with Ri initial are now read as zero initial. Finals:There is no difference between kaikou and hekou in Guo rhyme-groups; The second division of kaikou in Jia rhyme-groups are now read [A], and the hekou are read [uA], the third division of kaikou main reading as the two rhymes [r] and [ir]; Yu rhyme-groups mainly pronounces [(?)u] rhyme when spelled with Duan system,combined into the first kaikou division of Liu rhyme-groups.The present pronunciation of Xie and Zhi rhyme-groups usually has a coincidence;The syllabic endings of Xian Shan Dang Jiang rhyme-groups are the same,all of them pronounce nasal rhyme. The syllabic endings of Zeng Geng Tong rhyme-groups has disappeared, coming into confluence. The medial of hekou rhymes in Duan initials has been deleted.Tones:There are 5 tones in Hengbu dialect.Level tone with a voiceless consonant 31,level tone with a voiced consonant 454,rising tone 213,departing tone 334,entering tone 44. Among the all rhyme-groups,the first and second division of Xian Shan rhyme-groups,the third and forth division of Xian Shan rhyme-groups,Dang Jiang rhyme-groups,Shen Zhen Zeng Geng Tong retain rhyme with a stop ending.The third chapter is about the research of Zhi Zhuang Zhang, this chapter is divided into three sections. The first section is review of research on Zhi Zhang Zhuang,focusing on the description of the types of evolution of Zhi Zhang Zhuang in Chinese dialects,and specially introduce the situation that Zhi Zhuang Zhang presently pronounce as apico-alveolar. The second section describes the characteristics of the present pronunciation of Zhi Zhuang Zhang,changing to stop and accompanied lip thrilling.Acording to the kaihe,Zhi Zhuang Zhang in Hengbu dialect are divided into two groups:spelled with kaikou are dental affricates pronouncing [ts] group consisting of [ts], [tsh], [s], spelled with hekou are apical stops [tB] groups which consist of [tB], [thB] and [∫].Among the [tB] groups,the fricative is laminal.In this section, the characteristics of changing to stop are firstly analyzed.The similarities and differences between the present pronunciation of Zhi Zhuang Zhang and Jing Jian Xiao initials has been summarized. This part trace the souce of the changing to stop in Hengbu dialect,compared with the record about the pronunciantion of Zhi Jian initials in Siyun Dingben wrote by Fangyizhi.Third section is the research on the present pronunciation of hekou in Zhi Zhuang Zhang.In the section we access to know the conditions of changing to stop through analyse,and draw a conclusion that this change may be the result of internal phonetic evolution in Hengbu dialect. What follows is an analyse on lip thrill.Refering to other Chinese dialect in which Zhi Zhuang Zhang pronounce labio- dental,the paper explores the reason for Zhi Zhuang Zhang producing lip thrill when spelled with hekou,based on the characteristics of Hengbu dialectal phonology and the pronunciation habit of native speakers. Also it speculates the trend of Zhi Zhuang Zhang in Hengbu dialect in the future,on the basis of the evolution of Zhi Zhang Zhuang Zhang going to pronounce as labio-dental in Zhongyuan Mandarin and other Chinese dialects. However, any language development follows users, this chapter finally collects literatures about the population migration history in Zongyang area, from the angle of immigrants,the close relationship between Zongyang and Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other places has been revealed. The fourth chapter is about the study of Ni Lai initials.The first section gives an overview of research situation on differentiation and confusion of Ni Lai initials in Chinese dialect. The second section describe the situation of differentiation and confusion about Ni Lai initials in Hengbu dialect. [1] and [η] constitute a phonological opposition in the sound system,then the paper focus on analysis of pronunciation conditions about the two consonant, compared with the surrounding dialects from the synchronic angle.The last chapter is conclusions, summarizing the whole paper,and gives a brief survey of phonetic features of Hengbu dialect and the deficiency and regret of this research.
