Orientation word is a very special part of speech in modern Chinese, and it has become a focus attention in the studies of the contemporary Chinese grammar since the publication of <Ma Shi Wen Tong>. Until now the scholars mainly focused on the study of the syntax and semantics of the orientation word. However, there have been few comprehensive studies on the reduplicated combination form of the orientation word. This paper, of which the reduplicated combination form of the orientation word(AABB form) is the object of study, will for the first time in this field of research and from the angles of the semantic, syntax and pragmatic to examine the features of this kind of form in order to add a new direction to the study of modern Chinese orientation word.The paper is divided into three parts:The first part constitutes an introduction in which the research object, the significance of the research, research content and scope as well as the research findings from the previous studies, theories, methods adopted and corpus sources are introduced in order to clearly point out the theoretical and practical significance of this paper.The second part is divided into five chapters which form the core section of the paper.The first chapter has made a clear definition of the AABB form of the orientation word on the basis of the fully comparison between reduplicated combination and reduplication. It concluded that the AABB form of the orientation word is a kind ofreduplicated combination. Also, this chapter analyzes the fundamental features of this kind to reduplicated combination.The second chapter examines the syntatic function of the AABB form of orientation word. The author believes that these kind of AABB form often used as attributive and adverbial in a sentence and sometimes can also be used as subject and object. Thus, the author holds the opinion that the AABB form of orientation word is a kind of form which has the features of the predicative component and, at the same time, maintains the features of the nominal component.The third chapter analyzes the semantic features of the AABB form of orientation word. This kind of form has two kind of grammatical meanings, one is the all-over meaning, and the other is dynamic multi-quantity meaning. The former can be divided into space all-over meaning, time all-over meaning, general reference all-over meaning, process all-over meaning and people all-over meaning, while the latter can be divided into space dynamic multi-quantity meaning, time dynamic multi-quantity meaning and so on. Furthermore, this chapter has did a semantic orientation analysis of the AABB form of orientation word while it is used as attributive and adverbial in a sentence. When it is used as attributive, it can point to the front content and after content. When it is used as adverbial, it can generally point to the front content, but sometimes it is not true, either front content or after content.The forth chapter discusses the pragmatic features of the AABB form of orientation word. The author believes that this kind of form has the expression function, such as modification and reference. It can also used to be the reference of space, time, process and international relationship. Also, it have some other features in pragmatic such as accord with the principle of economy, vivid expression, strengthen subjectivity, rhythmic beauty and so on.The fifth chapter analyzes the forming motivation of the AABB form of orientation word and made a cognitive interpretation of the semantic features of it. It also analyzes the problem of the internal sort of the AABB form of orientation word.The third part constitutes the conclusions which summarize the whole paper.
