The Research On Features Of Sun Dayu’s Chinese Versions Of Shakespearian Plays

Sun Dayu, an excellent scholar specialised in translation of Shakespearian Plays, should be commemorated for his efforts on rectifying the misunderstandings about the style of Shakespearian Plays among Chinese readers. To be concrete, he revealed the rule of rhythm in poem written in Modern Vernavular Chinese and named it "syllabe groups". According to this rule, he transplanted the form "blank verse" in Shakesperian Plays into his Chinese versions. This thesis focuses on features of Sun Dayu’s Chinese version" The Tempest" and expects to make some creative and interesting explorations.Chapter 1 mainly discusses the chief language form of Shakespearian plays:blank verse and make some comparisons on two different Chinese version both written in the form of prose. Though prosy version has its unique value, it cannot satisfy the requirement of expressing the sutle feeling of the language in the original work.Chapter 2 analyzes Sun’s version and shows his extraodinary tenique in closing the distance betwwen the original work and his translation by combining the form and the content.Chapter 3 points out that Sun’s stratedy of foreinizing translation are very helpful for enriching and developing Modern Vernavular Chinese. Moreover, Sun’s version shows the sprits of participating in the dialogue with world literature.
