This is an English-Chinese translation report based on material excerpted from the novel:The Boston Girl. The novel, consisting of 9 chapters, is an inspirational fiction which mainly elaborates a Boston girl Addie Baum who survived in Boston in the early20 th century during the feminist movement. Addie’s intelligence and curiosity take her to a world that her parents can’t imagine— a world of short skirts, movies, celebrity culture, and new opportunities for women; a world where women can finish high school,go to college, have a career, and find true love on their own. The Boston Girl is a moving portrait of one woman’s complicated life in twentieth-century America and a fascinating look at a generation of women finding their places in a changing world.Looking back to the whole translation process, the translator mainly studied the translation of rhetoric, culture-loaded words, the dialogue and the headings of the text.During the translation process, the translator adopted various translation strategies flexibly such as sentence transformation, omission, substitution, semantic translation, communicative translation and so on.The translator met a lot of key and difficult points,in the way how to deal with these key and difficult sentences, the translator took comparative law, by contrast finding a better translation. What the translator found is that: There was no absolute semantic translation and communicative translation, in the actual process of translation, they were complementary, our translation process should consider the type of translation purposes, the characteristics of the reader and text.During the whole translation, the translator received her tutor’s help. With her help, the translator had looked up relative books to learn the cultural background and also read a lot of translation reports, references, especially in dealing with the special customs and culture-loaded words. The translator tried her best to make the translation text naturally equal with the original text. Finally, the translator faithfully translated the novel, based on the theory and practice of translation she has learned.
