This is a translation project report based on the translation of Time's Convert written by Deborah Harkness.From the perspective of Diana,Mathew's wife,this novel mainly tells the bumpy story of Marcus Whitmore from De Clermonts and Phoebe Taylor,an ordinary people.As the last book of All Souls Trilogy,this book was first published in Great Britain in 2018 by Headline Publishing Group.In 2019,it was first published in paperback and became a New York Times Best Seller,showing great influence in the literary circle.It is a supernatural novel full of magic and British and American culture.This fantasy novel has many different characters with varied traits.There are some independent and confident female characters with distinctive personality,attracting many readers.Besides,the language style is both free,plain and simple so that the translator needs to solve some translation difficulties,including changes in language styles of different characters,humor translation and so on.Based on the difficulties in translation,the translator considers the semantic translation and the communicative translation as the theory foundation.In the communicative translation,three strategies,including receptor-oriented strategies,equivalence-expected effect and information accuracy,are mainly used to solve relevant problems.According to the receptor-oriented strategies,the translator translates some culture-loaded words and phrases based on Chinese ways of expressions.On the basis of the equivalence-expected effect,the translation is set into the cultural background of Chinese readers to create immersive atmospheres.Based on the information accuracy,the translator looks up some names of figures and places in specialist vocabulary books,dictionaries and online resources to ensure translation accuracy.Therefore,the translator provides a Chinese translation for potential readers.
