A New Study Of Wuyu In Guoyu

The conflicts between Yue and Wu are critical historical events in the end of The Spring and Autumn Period. Wuyu in Guoyu is a crucial document recording that history. This article mainly discusses the formation process and the nature of Wuyu, and also discriminates a few contents of it. The dissertation is divided into four parts:The introduction briefly reviews the existing research about Wuyu, and points out several problems that worth further probing.With the materials of Cili Wuyu bamboo slips and Shanghai Museum bamboo slips Wuming, the first section focuses on debating the origin, the writing time, and the circulation of Wuyu.The second section provides some new discriminations and interpretations of a number of events recorded by Wuyu, and incidentally offers a new explanation of the "Chen" that lies at the end of Wuyu.The third section analyzes the nature of Wuyu according to materials of military books and unearthed "Shiyu" genre ancient literatures, suggesting that Wuyu has dense military colors. It is not a typical historical document.
