The charm of the youth campus film, which is an artistic form with the youth subculture characteristics, lies in its contradiction and conflict of the story, the fluctuation and development of which could remind the audience of the memory of their own youth, thus causing their resonance for the youth period. In recent years, the Chinese mainland youth campus film, with outstanding characteristics including low cost, easy to make and catering to the audience, gradually becomes popular and keeps its footing in the intensive market competitions and many films have achieved impressive box-office results. However, in contrast of the productive situation of the youth campus film, its quality varies and the overall performance is unsatisfactory. In summary, a contradictory state is shown between the quantity and the quality in the development of the Chinese mainland youth campus film.Films’ soul lies in the narrative, and also lies in its social function, which both belong to ideology. The study of ideology is an essential part of the cultural research and is also one of the important parts with vigor and argument in the field of communication. According to Louis Althusser, ideology is not only a collection of ideas but also exists in the practice. In other words, the ideology of the Chinese mainland youth campus film, a kind of ideological state apparatuses, not only appears in the film itself, but also exists in the whole film practice process. Meanwhile, the kind of ideology has an impact on the construction of the social dominant ideology, social environment, cultural environment etc.. Therefore, it is of great theoretical significance and practical significance to conduct a research on the ideology of the youth campus film.The research object of this paper is the Chinese mainland youth campus films released in the cinema from 2006 to 2015. With the perspective of the communication and the method of content analysis and textual analysis etc., paying attention to the popular cultural characteristic of the youth campus film, an interpretation about ideology of the Chinese mainland youth campus films is conducted. The main innovations appears in the following two sides, one lies in the screening progress, breaking the current practice that regards " grow " as a classification standard, only the objective meaning of youth and school is considered, and the other one is that the paper is a specialized research on the Chinese mainland youth campus film, which is a lack of the current research.The main content includes three parts. Firstly, a content analysis of the Chinese mainland youth campus films between 2006 and 2015 is made, so is a summary on the development and the characteristics. Then proceeding from the typical characteristics of the Chinese mainland youth campus films, a deep analysis on the ideology embodied in the films, compared with the dominant ideology, is done. Thirdly, in the fourth chapter, from the perspective of the social environment and the audience, the reasons behind the ideology of the Chinese mainland youth campus films are discussed.
