A Research On Morphology Of Gu Long’s Swordsman Fiction

The methodology of the study is based on structural narrative theory and it analyses the internal narrative structure and theme specifically of the Gu long’s swordsman fiction. In this paper, the main means is Russian Propp’s morphology, complemented by Bremond’s narrative logic, Grey Maas’s actant and Feminist narratology of Susan Lancer.The second chapter of the thesis focuses on the narrative function of Gu long’s swordsman fiction and analyses the motivation. This chapter induces eleven narrative functions, as follows,’saving others’,’figuring out the truth’,’beating the ambitious person’, ’relatives being hurt’,’being wronged’,’betrayed by relatives’,’pretending to fall into the trap’,’finding flaws’,’the opponent defection’,’playing cat and mouse’and’returning back to the reality’. It classifies the eleven functions by four categories, as follows,’undertaking the mission’,’being caught in trouble’,’being safe’and’finishing the mission’. From ’undertaking the mission’to’finishing the mission’, this process is a big cycle. From’being caught in trouble’to’being safe’, this process is a little cycle. The’improvement’or ’deterioration’from the story clear off initial condition and final condition combined and the combined cycles form a big cycle. Though a summary, analysis and comparison of the narrative function, we discover that Gu long has put an effort in making a breakthrough and looking for new and diversity.The third chapter of the thesis based on Bremond’s narrative logic and Grey Maas’s actant makes an exploration and summary on’role pattern’. It analyses the development pattern of the story and analyses the way Gu long creates the figure and the meaning of "hero",’an ambitious person’,’relative’,’female’.The research is intended to firstly separate the narrative feathers of the story and build foundation of narratology. which can make up with the deficiency. Secondly, it intended to make Gu long’s martial arts novel return to text. Through the narrative function and narrative sequence of Gu long’s martial arts novel, the paper discuss the narrative pattern and direction. It discusses the theme by narrative feather so as to be relatively objective.
