Shui Jing Zhu compiled by Li Daoyuan during the Northern Wei Dynasty is a book on noting and enlargingShui Jing which written by anonymous author living in Caowei Kingdom. Because of the ending of the Yangshao Warm Period, North China becomes dry and cold since the Eastern Han Dynasty. Considering the abundant rainfall, river having many tributaries,the anonymous author can only comb the general situation of the rivers during the Three Kingdoms period.The climate becomes dry and cold in the Northern Wei Dynasty.People have great enthusiasm for the river because of drought and water shortage in the north of China. Li Daoyuan coincides with a small precipitation period, with river filling, which provides his writing with convenience.From the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Three Kingdoms period, there always be in a state of war with a great loss of population, the lack of intellectual. Very likely the author of Shui Jingdoesn’t have high – level writing skills which makes the book records briefly. In contrast, Li Daoyuan lives in the Geographical Communication period.In addition, he is born in an official family with a good education, which makes him finish Shui Jing Zhu with Referencing a large number of books.Besides, the rulers of Cao Wei do not really want to unify the national that leads to recording less number of rivers inShui Jing. In the northern area of China, Cao Wei’s population is relatively inadequate. What’s more, the regime has no power and will to unify the whole country. Based on this situation, the author of Shui Jingis less seriously in writing. while Li Daoyuanhaving a completely different experience, he goes through the Reformations of Northern Wei Dynasty Taihe Period and feels the good governance of Emperor Xiao Wen, which is likely to accomplish national unity. However, several years later,Emperor Xiao Wen dies.The Northern Wei Dynasty’s government operation runs in chaos which is burying the hope of unity. Facing the situation,Li Daoyuan starts writing,leaving the hope of unity to the future generations.Although his thoughts are constantly changing, the writing motivation driven by the idea of great unification is not changed.In fact, Shui Jing Zhucan be used as a fine War Map.
