Sculpture is unique among many types of plastic arts. The biggest difference from painting and other traditional forms of easel art lies in that sculpture is three-dimensional which belongs to the art form of space. Therefore, sculpture is endowed with a unique charm which derives from its modelling language. Although sculptors express different ideas in diverse ways, the basic rule which is modelling language never changes.Reviewing the history of human civilization, we could easily discover that sculpture like any other art forms, was limited to the social productivity of that time. With the development of social productivity and promotion of technology, more and more sculpture materials were discovered and utilized. Moreover, changes in people’s thinking and ideology contributed to the variety and diversity of sculpture modeling. In the second half of eighteenth century, the Industrial Revolution spread to the entire European continent, and to North America in nineteenth Century. It also provided new opportunities and possibilities for the development of contemporary sculpture. "Linear language" has also been more and more flexibly applied to contemporary sculpture by many artists. There are many examples demonstrating the perfect combination of "linear language" and sculpture:the contemporary city sculpture created by the South African artist Marco Cianfanellis in memory of Nelson Mandela (Nelson Rolihlahla, Mandela, 1918.7.18-2013.12.5), who is a peace activist and politician; works of the dynamic sculpture master Jesus Rafael Soto; the flow series of the famous American sculptor Gil Bruvel; the landmark sculpture of "May Wind" in May Fourth Square of Qindao designed by a Chinese freelance artist Huang Zhen; "King Qian Tamed the Tidewater" by the Qiantang River in Hangzhou created by the arts and crafts master Han Meilin.A good piece of sculpture can’t do without the following factors. First, the work reflects the times according to the artist’s thinking of society and the world. Second, the materials conform to the content that the artist intends to express. Third, the work possesses the artist’s personal charm and modeling language. The author believes that earth-shaking changes have taken place in Chinese society since the reform and opening-up policy in 1978. Internet, especially the rapid development of electronic commerce has a great impact on our everyday life. Also, the times produces Ma Yun, the founder of Alibaba. Therefore, I designed the sculpture of "windstorm of e-commerce" according to Mr. Ma’s face portrait. With longitudinal extension of abstract metallic lines expressing force, the sculpture reflects the overwhelming sense of power and speed of e-commerce in the turbulent Age of Big Data.
