Three Sections About Humanity In Chinese Mordern Literature And Analysis Of Li Jianwu’s Drama Writing

In the history of Chinese modern literature, "humanity" was a very common concept. However, what humanity exactly was remained ambiguous all the time. On the evolutional process of this concept, Li Jianwu’s thought and practice was particularly notable.Li Jianwu was a successful literature critic and playwright. Before 1945, Li Jianwu wrote many collected literature critic essays such as Flaubert Book,Ju Hua Ji,Ju Hua Er Ji and so on. He also composed or adapted more than 40 drama works which includes various types such as comedy, serious drama, legendary play, etc. Thus it can be seen that Li Jianwu had made a marvelous contribution to Chinese modern literature criticism and drama’s development. This article mainly consist of two parts, the first part will take three authors(Zhou Zuoren, Liang Shiqiu, Li Jianwu) as cases and discuss the evolutional process of the important concept, i.e. "humanity" in modern literature. The second part will research Li Jianwu’s writing practice on the idea of "humanity" by taking his dramas as examples.The introduction will concisely analysis the application of "humanity" in critic area.The first chapter will start from two representative opinions about "humanism", then analysis the genesic and evolutional process of the concept of "humanity" in the modern literature history by singling out Zhou Zuoren, whose idea of "human’s literature" first of all constructed "human" in the scope of modern literature, and Liang Shiqiu who combined the Chinese traditional ethic system with Irving Rabbitt’s "new humanism" as examples. This process reflected attitudes of both Chinese modern literature history and thought history toward western thought.The second chapter mainly discusses Li Jianwu’s view about humanity. As a cardinal concept of Li Jianwu’s literature critics and drama writing, the birth and development of "humanity" underwent a complex process within his thought. Furthermore, I will compare Li Jianwu with Liang Shiqiu about their literature idea, and analysis how does Gustave Flaubert had an influence upon Li Jianwu’s view about humanity. Besides, the special contribution on the evolution of modern literature made by Li Jianwu’s view about humanity will also be mentioned.Undoubtedly, Li Jianwu’s view about humanity based on his drama writing. According to the chronological order, The third chapter will prudently and carefully analysis the figures in his five representative works. Furthermore I will research how does Li Jianwu practice his humanity pursuit and build a distinctive drama world in portraying figures, and how does he establish his own special aesthetic style.
