This MTI translation project centers on analyzing approaches the translator adopts in translating two chapters of Economic Pluralism, and the critical commentary on the significance of the project and the translation strategies and methods involved. The text selected is chapter 11 and chapter 19, which elaborate on new perspectives on pluralism in mainstream and heterodox economics, pluralist innovations in undergraduate and graduate economics education. The original text is featured by formality, conciseness and technicality as any other academic material. The translator must understand the knowledge background and technical terms, and know how to translate long sentences and words and phrases into Chinese. In order to solve these difficulties, multiple strategies, such as literal translation and free translation are applied. As for expression of the economic words and phrases, the translator has learned from parallel texts and used four strategies. Following original syntactic order and reinventing sentence structures are the main methods that the translator used to deal with those long English sentences. The report contains three parts. The first part introduces the project, including the source, content and characteristics of the selected materials, together with significance of the project and the preparation before the translation. The second part goes on with the introduction and analysis of the theoretical discussion, and enumerates some of the typical problems the translator has encountered in executing the project, and the measures the translator has adopted in resolving them. The last part summarizes the inspirations, experiences and lessons during the whole process of this project.
