The Suona Concerto "Soul of DunHuang" is one of the most outstanding repertoire in nowadays, it has been recognized as the representative of Suona pieces and also as one of the largest Chinese national orchestral work. Moreover, "Soul of DunHuang" is the piece that promoting the creation of the playing techniques of Suona, too, it has created the fresh elements to the development of the Chinese native instrument. This article is deeply focused on both sides of "Soul of DunHuang" such as art processing, secondary composing and actual playing based on the sound recording through audios and videos recorded by many great Suona performers, especially to combine those materials and discuss them with my personal learning and performing experiences. Accompanied with the development of the Chinese native instrument, there are many excellent repertoires have been composed for Suona and many other instruments, the composers are using the contemporary composition skills to exhibit the new creative ideas amount pieces without losing its own traditional value. This is the main idea of "Soul of DunHuang" by the composer, Mr. Xiaogu Zhu. Furthermore, it cannot be even clear to feel out the huge differences between contemporary and traditional native works based on the style and performing skills, the author is promoting the innovation of Suona in modern art through the analysis of suona concerto "Soul of DunHuang", and through the piece, it also leads up to a few question marks which concerns that how to improve the inheritance and development of Suona in the modern era, how to gain positive interaction between folk and academic art as well as to make the education of Suona even more specialized and systematic. Article are divided into three chaptersChapter 1:The compositional background and performance experiences of the Suona Concerto "Soul of DunHuang". The analysis of the piece structure and actual performance processes based on author’s performance experience.Chapter 2:The importance of secondary composition of "Soul of DunHuang". The analysis of secondary composition of the contemporary Suona pieces due to author’s personal performance experience. The 1st section is simply describing the feature and fact of secondary composition. The 2nd section is more focus on the definition of both performing technique and music emotion.Chapter 3:The inheritance and education of Suona. Through the "Soul of DunHuang", the author has found the value and significance of Suona which leads up to the issue of inheritance and education of Suona. The 1st section is mainly state the impact that "Soul of DunHuang" had brought to the development of the Chinese native instrument. The 2nd section is discussing the inheritance and education of Suona.
