| This paper is a practice report of consecutive interpreting in the form of C-E and E-C alternately. The task for the author is to interpret for the expert officials from World Bank and Ningxia Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department in a cooperative seminar discussing poverty-alleviation measures under agricultural sector. The author chose the live recording as the case to be studied in this paper where the optimization of interpreter’s performance in consecutive interpreting will be fully analyzed under the inspiration of Nord’s "Function plus Loyalty".When introspecting on the process of the task, the author attaches great importance to the description of pre-interpreting preparation by the application to Nord’s extratextual factors analysis, which is hoped to shed light upon the logical demonstration of rigorous pre-interpreting preparation. In the chapter of case analysis, attached closely some typical cases of this practice to Nord’s theory, the report proceeds with an in-depth analysis on the optimization of interpreter’s performance from the perspectives of verbal and non-verbal elements. After the description of the task and analysis of the cases, the report ends with the following conclusions:first, the extratextual factors analysis has a reasonable guiding function for pre-interpreting preparation; second, proficiency in the use of interpreting methods like extraction, omission and addition is beneficial to the viability and final success of the conference; third, the master of non-verbal elements is vital to the optimization of interpreter’s performance. |
