A Consulting Case Report Of A Visitor Who Suffered From Nightmares That Based On Hill’s Cognitive-experiential Model

This paper is about a consulting case of visitor who had nightmare, and the consulting was based on Hill’s cognitive-experiential dream model and the ABC Theory of Emotion by Ellis. The visitor in this case suffered from nightmares for a long time, the author of this paper helped him by individual consulting, then the author summarized and reflected the whole consulting process and formed a report of the visitor’s nightmares.Dreams are invisible and untouchable, yet they are indeed in man’s souls. In dreams there are our sensory perceptions and cognitive perceptions, also there are our thoughts about our current life, about the past experiences and the future. Dreams could be regarded as the reflections of our thoughts about real life. Nightmare is a kind of dreams, people would have fear, anxiety and other negative feelings, and people often wake when they are having a nightmare. The visitor in our case suffered from nightmares for a long time which has already damaged his sleeping quality, his thinking, his emotions and other important aspects of his mental health. The author is the consultant in the case, she helped the visitor with the consulting theories and methods that she learned during her graduate school education. The consultant used the resources of the school consulting center to help the visitor relieve his press, and helped him get social support from many ways. During the consulting, the consultant acted as a listener, a support, an explorer and a supervisor. The consultant used empathy ans kept secrets of the visitor.This paper is a practical type research, this paper presents the whole process of the case from selecting the visitor, accepting the case, making the consulting plan, implementing the consultant, closing the case, summarizing and reflecting the case. This case may provide reference for other consultants who want to help their visitors by analyzing their dreams. Also, the whole process of this case is guided by Hill’s theory, it’s a local application of this method.
