A Brief Study On The Colletion Of Zheng Solos Written By Wang Xingwu

Zheng is a traditional plucked instrument in China, having a history of more than 2000 years. With the development of our society, zheng has mingled with folk cultures in different areas, and has developed into nine genres, among which the traditional genres include Shandong Zheng, Henan Zheng, Chaozhou Zheng, Kejia Zheng and Zhejiang Zheng. The minority genres include Inner Mongolia Zheng, Kaya Zheng, etc. Besides, there is Shanxi Zheng which has revived recently, and Fujian Zheng dug out in 1970s. With the improvement of people’s life standard, an increasing number of people begin to love Zheng, and learn to play Zheng, which has promoted the development of the art of Zheng. However, most people only learn contemporary pieces of Zheng, neglecting the traditional ones. As a result, they fail to master the music styles of different genres. Only by learning more about traditional music of Zheng could we improve our performing skills.Henan Zheng, one of the nine genres, is a representative of the northern Zheng, featuring vigorousness and plain. Henan Zheng has a long history of art, wide popularity and huge influence. And its origin and prosperity has been closely linked to Henna Opera. Therefore, Henan Zheng is not only one of the nine genres, but also an indispensable constitution of Henan Opera. In recent years, Henan Zheng has achieved a great deal due to the effort made by folk artists, among which Wei Ziqiu, Cao Dongfu, Wang Xingwu and Ren Qingzhi stand out.Henan Zheng has a wide variety of tracks, providing precious data for studying Zheng art as well as folk music. Referring to The Collection of Zheng composed by Wang Xingwu and recorded by Liu Jiagui, the research aims to study the artistic characteristics of Henan Zheng. The book contains 51 pieces of Henan Zheng, including 14 Qu Pa and 37 Bantou Tune. Bing the earlier book of Zheng after PRC has founded, the collection has a profound influence on contemporary art of Zheng. The paper is going to demonstrate the artistic characteristics of Henan Zheng by examining the origin of Henan Zheng, the relationship between Da Diao Qu Zi and Henan Zheng, the comparison between the representatives of Henan Zheng and their performing styles and the music styles and performing skills embodied in the book.
