| Writing has always been a weak part in our traditional English teaching. However, it’s an important part of the students’competence. Effective English writing can not only enhance students’writing skills, but also cultivate the students’capacity of processing information and communicative skills. Although the relevant innovation and research in the field of English writing have risen at home and abroad in recent years, the current status of students’English writing competence is still unsatisfied. The increasing popularity of network, which makes it easier for people to communicate with others in the world synchronously and asynchronously, finds its wide application to teaching of English writing. The research of the network-based second language writing mainly focus on blog, email, and other areas of the asynchronous communication, but rarely involve the chat software for synchronous communication. The research of the combination of QQ and English writing in China is almost blank. Based on the theory of constructivism, the current research aims to explore the effect of QQ-based English-writing interest group through a four-month action research. The three research questions are as below:1) Is the QQ-based English writing helpful to arouse students’interest in English writing?2) Is the QQ-based English writing helpful to improve students’spirit of cooperation and interaction?3) Is the QQ-based English writing helpful to improve students’ability of English writing.Besides answering the three questions, the current research is also expected to reveal the practice of English writing through the analytical description of action research.To carry out the study, a college students’English-writing interest group was established, which comprised of 23 freshmen who were going to take CET-4 exam. The action research tried innovative measures to overcome the common problems in English writing like essay structure and word choice (mainly involving choice of formal words and use of chunks in this study). The innovative English writing practice attaches great importance to the combination of language input with various ways of language output, writing process and peer cooperation. The research methods were mainly observation, interview, questionnaire and text analysis.The results of the action research are as follows:1) Observation, interview and questionnaire show that Tengxun QQ platform is of help to promote their positive attitude toward English writing, reducing participants’ writing anxiety and arousing their desire to get it published and share.2) Observation, interview and questionnaire show that Tengxun QQ platform is of help to cultivate participants’cooperation. Through group cooperation, students interact more with each other and become more interested in evaluating other’s writings.3) Text analysis of participants’English writing seems to suggest that Tengxun QQ platform is of help to improve students’ability of English writing.The action research demonstrates the useful activities and positive effect of QQ-based English writing practice, and thus has implications for L2 learners’writing practice. |
