Research Of Aesthetic Characteristics Of Deductive Novels

Deductive novel is a type of novel which had the emergence in the mid 19th century. Readers paid attention to deductive novels as soon as the emergence because of their absorbing plots, vivid characters and scientific and rational deduction. With the development of our society in modern times, deductive novel was introduced into China. There are two golden ages about the development of deductive novels--One occurred in the Western between two World Wars, and the other occurred in Japan. This thesis is placed hope to make up for the unbalanced condition of the country which has a great amount of readers with the research of deductive novels’aesthetic characteristics. There are four aspects about the research--plot, dialogue, logic and secular value.The introduction introduces the situation and limitation of deductive novels, research value of this thesis and the concrete research methods and thought. Based on the thought of combining logic and history, the research of this thesis. The first chapter introduces shortly development situation and total characteristic of deductive novels, and brings up the following text.The second chapter gives a research about the aesthetic of plot. With the weakened inject of characters, this thesis stresses that deductive novels attach importance to plots and sums up the method to weaken characters and to strengthen plots. It is the concrete performance of valuing plots that deductive novels have difference and repetition in the narrative structure and set some suspense. The second and third part of this chapter shows the aesthetic characteristics from setting suspense and narrative structure.Then this thesis pays attention to the most striking characteristic--logical inference. We can regard the creation and the read of deductive novels as dialogue between authors and readers with text as medium. The value of deduction can be motivated by dialogue. This thesis gives a research about the dialogue of deductive novels in the fourth chapter, and the research of deductive novels can deepen the comprehension of the value of dialogue.The fifth chapter of this thesis investigates the aesthetic of secular value, deductive novels can give readers who have little secular moral judgment in their daily life a kind of value concern and satisfy them. The third chapter investigates the concrete mechanism of how deductive novels satisfy secular moral judgment of readers, and finds that the mechanism can satisfy human a kind of dead impulse.In sum, this thesis makes the point that aesthetic characteristics of deductive novels is reflected by the aesthetic of plot, logic, dialogue and secular value.
