With the fast growing and further development of China-ASEAN convention and exhibition industry, The Seminar on China-ASEAN Convention & Exhibition Affairs is held to meet the demands for further deepening cooperation and communication and enhancing mutual learning among China and ASEAN countries. The well-known China-ASEAN EXPO has been successfully held for 12 sessions up to now. It provides both China and the ASEAN countries a stage for mutual cooperation, an effective carrier for the promoting of the facilitation of trade and investment. Meanwhile, it is also an important leading force for the deepening of multi-field cooperation between the two sides. Thus, the officials attending this seminar had a profound study and thorough observation of it during the seminar. This report uses materials from my personal experience of consecutive interpreting at the seminar on China-ASEAN convention & exhibition affairs. It is written in such a time background that China and ASEAN countries seek for cooperative development and mutual benefits. It sees the CAEXPO as a carrier for many a field. In the meantime it integrates regional development features and demands into it. By combining the translation theories I’ve learnt and practical experience I’ve earned in interpreting, my discussions will be displayed on:how to do the analysis and preparation work before interpreting, how to make good use of the memory skills we’ve learnt at school, such as the nested memory model, the schema theory, the abstract memory model in consecutive interpreting especially in the most complicated and flexible Q & A session, how to perfectly use the interpretive theory as a guidance to comb and summarize the improvised speech of speakers; how to predict the contents of a speech on condition of well knowing the speaker’s background; how to speculate the intentions of a speaker through a few key words, so that we can make our interpreting in this session more smooth and effective. At the end of my report, I did an objective and all-round self-evaluation on my interpreting service for the seminar, summarized my gains and loss through this practice in a careful and profound way, and shared my inspiration from this practice and thoughts on the convention and exhibition interpreting field in details.
