Cognitive Characteristics Of Undergraduate Students With Different Integrity Levels

Integrity is a significant moral character and personality characteristics which plays a very important role in social life and interpersonal communication. From psychological point of view, integrity means the stable psychological character which is showed by individuals in certain relationship, cored by honesty, credit and trust.The research, based on psychological lexicology hypothesis of personality characteristics, probed the regulation effect of different individual integrity levels on two typical cognitive activities, implicit self-process and explicit memory recognition. We expect to clarify if the effect of integrity on individual cognitive activities is deep into bottommost implicit ego through Experiment One, and do a further research about the effect of integrity on individual superficial explicit cognitive activities.Experiment One reveals that inter-block main effect is not significant on both accuracy and reaction time between self-positive and self-negative, which are two sub-missions of different integrity level testees, and the cross effect between integrity level grouping and sub-mission type is not significant, which indicates that integrity does not show obvious effects on individual implicit self processing. There is one point which should be highlighted that statistic shows that no matter what level testees are, they all showed higher accuracy and shorter reaction time on the task of self-positive vocabulary classification. The result manifests that people have very common and stable self-positive preconception.Experiment Two reveals that different integrity level testees showed significant differences on accuracy of explicit memory recognition of different nature words, and cross effects between testees’ integrity levels and vocabulary nature are fringe significant. Yet there is no obvious significant difference between different integrity level testees on explicit memory recognition of different nature words, and its cross effect with words nature is not significant. This result shows that integrity has regulation effect on explicit memory with certain extent memory bias, which is represented by the phenomenon that high integrity level testees could recognize more positive integrity words than low ones.The consequence of the research demonstrates that the integrity is not deep into implicit self processing, while it shows cognition bias effect on superficial explicit cognition such as explicit memory recognition. Meanwhile, the research also indicates that people have very common and stable self-positive preconception. It is necessary to do a further research on individual integrity level’s regulation effect on explicit cognition activities such as explicit self processing, explicit memory recognition, and so on, so that we could double testify memory bias effect of integrity character and demonstrate psychological effect mechanism of integrity exhaustively.
