Documentary novels mirror the society. With a rough beginning, Chinese documentary novel witnesses a thriving development. It has been an indispensable part of modern literature. Nowadays, cultural exchanges between China and the outside world are more and more often, which creates a good opportunity for translating Chinese documentary novels. The target readers are expected to deepen their understanding toward Chinese society through the translation of documentary novels. To help them, translators should adopt various strategies according to the feature of specific source texts.In this thesis, the author discusses the difficulties of C-E translation of documentary novels from the perspective of translator’s subjectivity. The author also tries to make some solutions and summarize the corresponding strategies. The first chapter gives a brief introduction about the background, goals and meanings of the translation. The second chapter is about an analysis of the source text and theories adopted. The third chapter focuses on the difficulties and the relevant strategies. The last chapter is the summary of the experience and lessons gained in the process. |
