This thesis offersan interpretation of the C-E translation of the commentaries in the CCTV Documentary Shanxi Merchants from the Perspective of Hermeneutics. This Documentary is a masterpiece comprehensively reflectingthe splendid history and profound business culture of Shanxi Merchants. What the author has translated are the 3rd episode Rishengchang and the 8th episode Time-honored Brands.The 3rd episode is about the firstChinese financial enterprise Rishengchang, focusing on its development, expansion, and its unique way of management. While the 8th episode Time-honored Brands explores the business spirit and morality that had supported Shanxi merchants‘ prosperity for hundreds of years. Throughtranslating these traditional Chinese culture into foreign languages, on the one hand, we can spread and carry forward our culture, and on the other hand,it is advantageous for contemporary enterprises to adopt their precious experience, especially with respect to its modes of operation and business ethics.The thesis falls into four chapters. The first chapter is task description, offering an introduction tothe task background and theoretical basis.It is mainly about the content of the translated text, and the connotation and status of hermeneutic motion. The second part is taskimplementation-- the process of this translation program and difficulties to be solved in the process. The third chapter is the analysis of cases, and also the key chapter of this paper, which is divided into 4 parts – Trust, Invasion, Incorporation and Compensation. It elaborates how the hermeneutic motion conducts and guides this translation.The last chapter is the conclusion of this thesis, including further understanding of translation and the theory, and meanwhile, some limitations.
