Research On Translation Process For Government Documents From The Perspective Of Hermeneutics Fourfold Translation Motion Theory

Hermeneutics is a discipline on the study of understanding and interpreting,which essentially means "the art of interpretation";translation is in dire need of thorough,penetrating and all-round understanding of the source text before the interpretation of the source text presented by the translator in a certain approach.Some hermeneutic scholars in history paid much attention to the application of hermeneutics to the translation,of which the representative figure is George Steiner.From George Steiner's perspective,interpretation is a sort of translation.Concerning the whole translating process,George Steiner proposes the Fourfold Translation Motion theory(FTMT).In his representative book,After Babel:Aspects of Language and Translation in 1975,he presents the four steps minutely,that is,trust,aggression,incorporation,and compensation.Based on Hermeneutics,this thesis tries to analyze the application of George Steiner's Hermeneutic Fourfold Translation Motion theory in translation process for government documents by taking the translation of Artificial Intelligence,Automation,and the Economy as an example.Adopting many research methods,such as descriptive approach,literature research,and case analysis,the thesis will discuss and analyze how the translator trusts,aggresses,incorporates and compensates between the source text and target text,and give a detailed description of translation strategies and skills used at lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The thesis focuses on dynamic analysis,breaking the limitation of static analysis for texts.It is hoped that this translation practice can explore the applicability of George Steiner's Hermeneutic Fourfold Translation Motion theory to the non-literary texts,such as government documents,and provide some clue and reference for the future translation of similar texts.
