Digital Technology Based On The Brocade Pattern Inheritance And Innovative Applications

Nanjing brocade, the last milestone in China ’ s silk-weaving history and the peak of its artistic achievements, is the only “living heritage” which has had concentrated Chinese brocade craft history, culture and skills. The unique patterns and weaving skills is especially wonderful and has a unique aesthetic value and profound cultural connotation. However, with the development of material civilization in modern society, brocade pattern also faces new challenges and crises. The designers need to figure out how to inherit and innovate brocade pattern and continue to study and solve the problems.This paper takes the Nanjing brocade pattern as the research object and then uses some kinds of ways like literature analysis, field investigation and design practice to focus on the research of brocade pattern of digital innovation and innovative design and its application. The paper mainly elaborates three aspects:First, classifying the brocade pattern materials and analyzing its aesthetic value and culture connotation and then having a field trip in Nanjing brocade to further research foundation and understand its current situation and the problems occurred in the process of the brocade heritage.Second, using the problems occurred in its heritage as the starting point together with modern digital technology to create a Nanjing Brocade database to inherit and promote Nanjing brocade. Based on this and combining modern design and style, developing new brocade patterns out of traditional patterns and styles in order to achieve the purpose of “make the past serve the present”.Third, analyzing Nanjing brocade’s applications in modern decoration and clothing design, taking modern female clothes as an example and combining people’s aesthetic habits and psychological needs to design two different brocade clothes for reference with innovative pattern and traditional pattern as inspirations respectively.This topic uses digital technology as a way which studies Nanjing brocade’s connotation, inheritance, innovative design and creation to provide a reference for the later brocade digitization inheritance and creativity. Meanwhile, we hope it can play a valuable role which could draw people’s attention on traditional Nanjing brocade’s innovation and designing ways, so as to make some efforts for its inheritance and development in modern society.
